9 Planning Tips and Tricks

When your final photography session arrives, you will want everything to go just right! From planning to printing - here are a few ideas for helping everything to run smoothly!

Planning Guide

[pinit count="horizontal" always-show-count="1" url="http://www.thedatingdivas.com/?p=58271" image_url="http://www.thedatingdivas.com/wp-content/uploads/Planning-Guide.jpg" description="Tips and tricks for planning a family fall photo. Love these ideas! www.TheDatingDivas.com"]

1. Get Organized! Keep yourself ahead of the game with this easy-to-use organizer created by Leah Aldous. This free printable has a place for you to organize your clothing choices, brainstorm your pose & location ideas, gather your photographer information, plan your budget and more! All of your information is in one place!

Fall-Photo-Checklist-pic_Logo

2. Choose Your Photographer Wisely! - You don't have to select the most expensive photographer in town, but remember that you are investing in life time memories. Sometimes "you get what you pay for" isn't a beneficial thing. Investing in a professional photographer who may charge a little more can be well worth it!

3. Schedule Ahead - The most talented and sought-after photographers will fill up quickly (especially during the fall season!) so schedule in advance! If you have a large extended family included in the photo shoot, make sure to verify with everyone that they will be able to attend. You will want every member of the family to be there!

4. Plan - Look through the post above and have a clear idea of any specifics you want for your photos. Is there a certain location, pose or prop you want to include? Use your organizer to write these down and communicate these with your photographer.

5. Working with Kids -  Getting the kids prepped for the big day is key to a stress-free photography session. Let them be involved in planning outfits and props so they can be invested and excited. During the photography session, you might want to bring along a helper to stand behind the photographer and get the attention from the little ones. Finally, bringing snacks and supplies is a must with kids!

6. Lookin' Good - We all want to look our very best in a family photo, so do a little research on how to look the most flattering in pictures! There are some secrets out there that can really make a big difference! Here is one of my favorite posts on looking good in photos from our friend Cara at Maskcara

7. Timing is Everything - Did you know that there is a certain time that is better than any other for taking amazing pictures? There is a time that photographers call "The Golden Hour" - it is the time right before the sun is going to set. The lighting is just right. As you plan a time with your photographer, make sure you request the golden hour. You will get amazing colors and lighting. You just can't go wrong!

8. Go with the Flow - Don't plan so much that you can't be flexible when needed. Some of the best pictures are captured in the moment. Remember that you are capturing memories and it doesn't matter if everyone is in the right spot with a picture perfect smile. You want to capture your real family - how they are! Trust your photographer and follow their lead. They are the professional and will lead you to great pictures!

9. Order Prints - This may seem obvious, but many families get those amazing pictures taken only to have them sit on a digital screen. Have a plan for where and when you are going to print your photos. Choose a place on your wall for the new family picture to go. If you are planning to do a collage or any sort, discuss with your photographer. They will likely have input for which style of pictures would look well together.

There you have it! Ideas GALORE for your next fall photography session! You can't go wrong with a beautiful fall background and with these additional ideas- you are bound to have a fantastic photography session!

Going to create a newspaper or magazine love code for my hubby this week! www.TheDatingDivas.com"]

In Debbie's Words:

"Does your husband enjoy catching up on the news? Whether it’s the sports section or Wall street, here’s a fun idea to let him know you care.

You’ll need to do this before he gets the paper or even just use a section from the day before and sneak it into the front page. Find a section or article you’re sure he’ll want to read. This way, he won’t miss it! Using different colored pencils, circle letters found in the print. Each color can be for a new word. If you don’t have colored pencils, two different colored pens will work just make sure to write lightly or circle it in a way that he can still read the news!"

**************************************************

How fun is that?  Debbie wrote out: “I love you darling. Have a great day.” AND “I can’t wait for our date tonight sweetheart. I hope you have a wonderful day. I love you.”

This idea is super easy and perfect for anyone that loves to solve a puzzle!  If your sweetie doesn't read the newspaper, don't despair.  Leave him secret love notes in his favorite magazine.  Cheers to quick and easy romance!  I'll definitely be adding this one to my list of puzzle date ideas!  If you liked this quick and easy romance idea, then check out these posts:

CHOOSE YOUR OWN BIRTHDAY ADVENTURE DATE

The search is over!!!! Whether you are looking for a surprise birthday idea, romantic birthday idea, or a birthday gift idea, you've landed on the perfect post! We've taken the guess work out of birthday planning! Let your spouse choose how they want to spend their birthday! This is the best birthday date idea ever!!!

Choose Your Own Birthday Adventure Date

[pinit count="horizontal" always-show-count="1" url="http://www.thedatingdivas.com/?p=59002" image_url="http://www.thedatingdivas.com/wp-content/uploads/Choose-Your-Own-Birthday-Adventure-Date.jpg" description="Such a FUN way to celebrate a birthday! www.TheDatingDivas.com"]

I'm wishing it was MY birthday we were celebrating with this idea, I know you are all thinking the same thing, too! My hubby and I don't usually go crazy for birthdays,  but this year I'm kicking it up a notch! I am totally going to surprise him with this birthday idea. I'll have to assure him I'm not getting batty in my old age, he will love it!

This birthday date is similar to the Choose Your Own Adventure Date, but with a twist!

Choose Your Own Birthday Adventure Printable Book

The Set-Up

First of all, aren't these printables soooo darling! A very warm thank you to C Dot Love for putting these together so beautifully. Check her out, you will love her work!

Although most of us will be giving this surprise birthday gift idea to our hubbies, this is perfectly cute for the ladies, too!  So ladies, give those hubbies of yours a link to this post as a HUGE hint!

There are 35 pages in this adventure book, yes 35 pages that make a true whole day adventure. Trust me, you are going to want to use a paper trimmer. If you don't own one of these babies yet, run and get this $6 trimmer asap!

The pages in the book are numbered, which makes putting them in order easy peasy! Once you have all the pages in order place the title page on top. Now, it's time to put this birthday book together, but no worries, it's easy!  Make a hole punch on the top left-hand corner of each page. Bind with a ribbon or with a ring. Voila!

Choose Your Own Birthday Date Invite

The Plan

Your spouse gets to choose how they want to spend their birthday. We are letting your spouse PICK out what they want to do all day from lots of choices of their favorites!

You have three options for presenting this birthday date:

1. Give to your spouse the week of their birthday. Let them look through the different categories and pick their favorites. They will then tell you their picks and you can start preparing for their big day.

2. Or you can give them their book the morning of their birthday as a surprise. Ahead of time, plan out possibilities for each category. Look at your local listings, see what's showing at the theater along with times, if there is a game in town find out when and where... I think you get the idea!  The fun part about choosing this option is that you both get to be surprised and spontaneous!

3. There is a lot involved in this date and fulfilling every adventure in one day can seem overwhelming! Another idea would be to have one adventure take place each day of their birthday week. You would give your spouse one category from the book per day.  This would give you two plenty of time to complete each category without being the least bit rushed. Another perk of this option AKA having a birthday week is that your spouse gets a new surprise each day. Who doesn't love being spoiled all week long?!

Your spouse does not have the option to bow out of this birthday date idea, isn't that fabulous?!

There are several categories that will take you through a whole day of adventure! The categories included in the book: breakfast, fun, dinner, more fun, sweet treats, and night cap. Whew, it's going to be quite an adventure! Most categories have 3-4 options, definitely something that will please everyone!

The both of you are taking a "ditch" day... so send the kids to grandma's and call in sick to work! Today is all about celebrating your spouse, so get rid of all other distractions!

The Birthday "Night Cap"

Remember this is their BIRTHDAY! So you've got to celebrate just right! Don't just have any old night cap, make this one special!

Choose Your Own Birthday Bedroom Games

First grab all the printables/ideas from these posts:

1. Simon Says

2. Strip Trivia

3. Name That Treat

4. Truth and Dare

5. Game of Love

Prepare for your spouse to choose from one of these ideas by putting the games together, grabbing any needed items, and setting up each game individually.  If your spouse is more visual, they may choose a game based on your presentation.

Second, prepare your bedroom for romance by setting the mood. Tidy the room, set out candles, prepare a happy birthday bubble cupcake bath (these cupcakes are my favorite!!!), get dressed up in your favorite lingerie, and turn on the music.

Third, let go of those inhibitions and celebrate! Just think - whatever games your spouse DOESN'T choose... just means you get to do them another night! You'll have 4 more nights of flirty fun all ready to go!

Fun and Easy Couple or Group Date Idea

I love date night, but what makes it even more great is when I can plan a fun, creative and frugal date night!  If I can plan a date night that incorporates all 3, I feel like I have really scored!!!!  This fun scavenger hunt not only has elements of fun, creativity and doesn't cost money- but it has 4 different hunts included!  That means ONE or MORE amazing date nights! Wahoo!  Sign me up!!!

Courtney from All Things Bright and Beautiful created these amazing printables that include an invite, rules of the hunt, and 4 different scavenger hunts to go on.  She is seriously so talented!  Check out her site today to see what she can create for you!

What I love about this fun date night is it's versatility... you can go with just you and your hubby on all 4 hunts on different nights or the same night, you can go with your hubby on 1 or 2 hunts - then go on the other hunts with a group of friends, you can do all hunts with a group of friends, or you can just pick one hunt that is your favorite to go on with just your hubby or choose a group of friends to go with.  The possibilities are endless!

fun scavenger date night invite

I thought that this would be a fun group date, so once I decided which couples I was planning on inviting, I took my invites to them and also gave one to my fabulous hubby!

fun scavenger hunt date night rules

On the appointed day, I had enough copies of the checklists and also a copy of the rules for each couple. I wanted to make sure there was NO confusion on the rules!  :)

We decided to go on 2 of the hunts and headed off to the mall.

fun scavenger hunt date night 2 checklists

Just as an FYI before you leave, you might want to make sure there is enough space on your camera to take a bajillion pictures!  We couldn't help but take multiple pics for each item, so by the end of the night we had TONS of pictures to review.  It was a blast!  It also helped make sure that the couple/person who won - actually did WIN {aka - didn't cheat }!  That's why taking a picture for each item was a rule, because it is PROOF that there wasn't any cheating going on.  Cheating is NOT allowed :-) .

fun scavenger hunt date night invite and rules

Let's just say it was an epic night.  We laughed and joked, got great exercise running around, and just had a BLAST!  It is a night that I will remember for a long time.

Now that you have heard about my fun night, are you ready to have your own?  Just print out the printables, decide who you are going to invite, how many scavenger hunts you will go on for your fun date night, and then go make some awesome memories!

Find a Babysitter You Trust and Keep Your Kids Happy During Date Night!

You are going to LOVE these great tips we have to get you out on date night with your hot hubby!! Enjoy your alone time withOUT worrying about the kids!

Keep a Babysitter

[pinit count="horizontal" always-show-count="1" url="http://www.thedatingdivas.com/?p=58885" image_url="http://www.thedatingdivas.com/wp-content/uploads/Keep-a-Babysitter.jpg" description="It's always tricky trying to find a babysitter!! Best tips ever!!!  www.TheDatingDivas.com"]

Trying to find a babysitter each time you want to go out on a date can be SUPER stressful! You have to worry about who to call, then when you do think of someone that seems trustworthy enough, you have to worry if they will even be available! It's almost like dating all over again!! ;) I am SO jealous of all you lucky ladies who have family in town that beg to have the grandkids or cousins over - you are so lucky!! Take advantage!!

The Dating Divas know that one of the biggest reasons couples don't go out on Date Night is because they don't have anyone to babysit their children. It can be super stressful trying to find the perfect babysitter to watch your kiddos, especially if they are really young. So to help you all out a little, the Divas put our heads together and came up with 10 fantastic tips to find and keep a great babysitter.

1. Get Recommendations: The Diva's all agreed that recommended babysitters are one of the best way to find a fabulous sitter. Talk with  your close friends for babysitters they have used and liked. Ask around at your church, community center, neighborhood park, or at any clubs you are in. Make sure you ask specific questions about them, i.e. if they are comfortable with watching infants, or high-energy kids - anything that would be important for your situation.

Detail

2. Start A Babysitting Co-op: If you want to have your children tended by experienced parents, then you will LOVE the idea of a babysitting co-op! A co-op is a great way to save money AND have your kids in responsible hands. What is the definition of a babysitting co-op? Basically, a babysitting co-op is a group of parents who agree to trade babysitting hours, using a ticket system. When you bring your child to another family’s home, you pay tickets. When you sit for other family’s children, you earn tickets! We have a whole post all about starting your own babysitting co-op that you should check out. The best part is that if you are the one organizing it, then YOU can hand-pick the families you want to swap with! :)

3. Get to Know Your Sitter: Take the time to get to know your sitter. What's their family like? What are their hobbies, extra-curricular activities, and favorite things to do? I always loved it when the families I babysat for took an interest in me. If your babysitter feels like you care about them, they are more likely to be more interested in  your children. One of the Divas makes a point to send her favorite babysitter texts saying how awesome she is and giving her a birthday gift to let her sitter know how much they like her! You can get your kids involved in this too. They will love 'surprising' their favorite babysitter with a special gift.

Babysitter Present

4. Be A Tour Guide: When your sitter is new to your home, you will want to make sure they are comfortable with where everything important is located. Give your sitter a little tour when they first arrive. Make sure they know where diapers, wipes, and jammies are. Make sure all your contact info is current, is written down, and is in an obvious place. If you don't have a landline and your sitter doesn't have their own cell phone, make sure you have a way for them to communicate with you in case of an emergency. Diva Candice had a "Baby 101" sheet that had all the details about their 4-month-old for their sitter. It included when she needed her bottle and how to prepare it, her napping schedule, favorite things, and other details that would be helpful for their babysitter. This was also a fun memory for them to put in their daughter's baby book showing a 'snapshot' of her at 4 months old.

Babysitter Snacks

5. Snacks Bring Them Back:  Have specific treats set out just for your sitter. This is a great way to make them feel special and it keeps them going through all your cupboards when they want a snack. If you know your kiddos are going to be up for a while, you will probably want to include a special snack for them too. Your date night could be a great night to have a special movie theater night in your own home and have concession snacks for everyone. You can modify our fun Double Feature Date Night to make it kid and babysitter approved!

Becca-DoubleFeature-Concessions

6. Feed Your Kids Before You Leave: Or at least have a simple meal ready for your kids to eat. It can be busy enough for a young babysitter to watch your little darlings without adding on the extra stress of meal preparation. You may think a box of macaroni and cheese will be simple for them to whip up, but if they are not used to your stove or haven't cooked much, it could spell disaster! This could be the night to order in pizza, or have cheese, crackers, yogurt, and fruit set out- anything to keep a meal easy.

Becca-BabysitterInABag-BagContents

7. Have Special Games: Some of you might have those little ones who cry and cry when you leave the house. The quickest way to solve this is to give your kids something to look forward to when the babysitter comes. If you have a game or two that ONLY come out when they have a sitter, it will give the kiddos something fun to look forward to and also ensure your kids look forward to having a sitter. They will be BEGGING you to go on a date! We have some great ideas on our site that you can quickly print out. Our Babysitter in A Bag is great for young kids and includes music, Play Doh, crayons, and fun! We also have some fun Date Night Envelope games that young and older kids will really look forward to... especially since they involve a little bit of a treat {wink!} The First Date Night Envelope has a "Don't Eat Pete" game, as well as "The Kit Kat Game". Date Night Envelope Part Two contains a fun and re-useable treasure hunt, we also have one more that is a crazy Skittles Game with a free printable too!

robin-skittles-pic1

8. Pay Them Well: Don't be chintzy when it comes to paying for your babysitter. If you find a great babysitter that you and your kids just love, make sure to pay them accordingly!! They will appreciate it and it will make them say yes the next time you ask. Also if you say you are going to be back by 10, be back by 10 OR at least call and let them know you are going to be later. That's just common courtesy {wink!}.

Pay babysitter money

9. Give Advance Notice: Give your babysitter as much notice as you can. When one of the Divas was a teenager, she had a family that would book her for the 2nd and 4th Friday of every month. This way she always knew she had a job those nights, and they always knew they had a sitter scheduled. It was a win-win! Plus, she LOVED this family, so she made sure to always keep those nights clear for them. {See why it's a great idea to find a sitter you love, and make sure they enjoy babysitting YOUR kidlets as much as you enjoy having them?!?} Get it up on your calendar {you can even use one of our fun Date Night Stickers Here or Here } and you are set for the month!

10. Listen: Listen to your kids when they tell you about how things went with their babysitter. Listen to your babysitter and see if there is anything you can do to keep them happy. Listen to your heart and make sure you always feel comfortable with who you are leaving your children with.

Have fun finding a fantastic babysitter for your family and enjoy some great date nights! If you have any tips you've found have worked great we'd love to hear them in the comments below!

DIY Wedding Gift Idea

I am always looking for gifts for weddings that are inexpensive but very personal. I have so many sweet friends getting married, but just can't afford expensive gifts! While looking through Pinterest, I saw some adorable customized wedding framed art and I thought - I could make that! And I did. And I will. I will be making these for many years to come because this is the perfect gift idea! Check it out!

The perfect wedding gift or home decor! www.TheDatingDivas.com"]

This is the perfect wedding gift idea, but what about for an anniversary gift, too? I love everything about this DIY project and it really wasn't too tricky. All you need is a computer with Microsoft Word (or similar software), a printer & a frame. Yep! That is it!

Layer #1: The Background

For this project you will want to start with your background. You have two options: you can customize your own personalized background OR use one our beautiful ready-made ones.

Background-steps-collage-resized-WebLogo

To personalize my framed art, I made my own background!

1. I opened up my basic Microsoft Word and copied the text of a love letter my husband sent me during a key moment in our relationship. {You can do the same or use the lyrics of a love song.}

2. I shortened the margins to my document to 0.2. My computer kept warning me that it wasn't within the print margin, but it still worked!

3. Then, I changed the text to something a little fancier. I went with Janda Elegant Handwriting because it looks like someone actually wrote it. Next project I do I think I want to actually scan in a love letter from my husband so that it is his OWN handwriting. Wouldn't that be cool?

4. Finally, I choose "justify text" so that the letter will fill up the entire page. The idea is to get as close to the edge as possible.

Sound too tricky? No worries! Leah Aldous, one of our fabulous designers, has created 3 unique backgrounds for you! Make sure to stop by her site and say "Thank You" for creating all of these! Check them out:

Background-collage-WebLogo

1. This design has the lyrics to the love song "Lucky" by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat.

2. This design has the phrase "I Love You" in several different languages.

3. This design has the definition of love

Aren't these fun? Leah always does such a great job turning my ideas into a reality!

Whichever background you choose, go ahead and print it out. I recommend printing onto card stock paper. Once your background is printed, you are ready to add the next layer!

Layer #2 Overlay

Now for the main focus - the overlay! For this one, Leah has designed 4 amazingly beautiful phrases. You can choose from:

Overlay-collage-WebLogo

To print the overlay, place your recently printed background into the printer. Then, print the overlay! Warning: make sure you know which direction the design will print. I may or may not have accidentally printed upside down a few times!

framed-art-pic-1-WebLogoresized

Now, you already have an adorable work of art and can frame it right now!

OR you can personalize it even more. Here is how:

Layer #3 Personalize It Even More!

This is where I think this project would be fabulous for a wedding gift. After you make one and have a template, you can just personalize it with the couple's name and wedding date. Here is what you can do:

Peronalized-instruction-collage-WebLogo

1. Open up Microsoft Word (or similar software) and choose "Insert" and then"Text Box". Click on your document and a text box will appear.

2. Type in text you want. This is a great place to put the couples first or last name, their wedding date etc. I ended up doing two text boxes: 1 for the names and 1 for the wedding date.

3. Choose a font. For my project I used Frebooter Script for the names and The Blue Cabin for the wedding date but there are thousands of free fonts to choose from!

framed-art-pic-3-WebLogoresized

4. Now you want to position your text box to just the right place. On this step, it is somewhat of a guessing game. Place the text box about where you think it should go on the page and then print on a separate piece of paper NOT your final product with your background and overlay. Once that paper is printed, place it on top of your final background/overlay paper and hold it up to the light. You should be able to see if it matches up where it should go or not. Continue to adjust your text box and print like this until you have it in just the right spot! Hint: Also take into consideration the frame you will be using. Most likely you will place this in an 8x10 frame and your paper is 8.5 x 11. Remember that you will likely be trimming!

Now you are ready to print! Place your final product with your background and overlay into your printer (make sure it is facing the correct way!) and print. You now have your final product!

framed-art-pic-5-WebLogo

Find a cute frame and insert your work of art into the frame. Most likely you will need to trim your layered art work if you are going to use an 8x10 frame. This actually makes the product even better because it will put your background right to the edge!

framed-art-pic-4-WebLogoresized

Although the steps seem lengthy, it really is super fast especially after you have made one! I couldn't just make one so I ended up making some for friends too!

3-final-framed-pictures-WebLogo

There are so many possibilities for this type of project! This would be a beautiful wedding or anniversary gift for any couple. I love that it can be done at home and is very inexpensive, but most of all, that it is personal!
