Grown Ups Movie Date

This month’s movie pick is fun and a little more on the playful side…it’s called Grown Ups! Sometimes we ‘adults’ forget how to act like adults around our childhood friends. So make a date night all about embracing those memories together! It’s time to reminisce and have some sporting good fun, too!!

Lake House Invite

  • Leave an Invitation for your spouse with the tagline, “Boys will be boys…meet me tonight for a good time!” Attach your invite to a toy Maserati (this is the car Adam Sandler’s character buys all of his friends at the end of the movie) or a toy sports car.
  • Invite a couple on this date that you would never usually hang out with and see if you can spark a connection OR really invite your old high school buddies AND your spouses high school buddies…this could be a great way for your friends to meet more friends!

Gym Attire

  • Make basketball team jerseys with your family name on it and be on opposite teams (since some of the movie is about the rival basketball teams duking it out) or dress in basketball attire.
  • The teenage girls in the movie (that all the men ogle over) wear very scantily-clad clothes…let this be your attire for the night {wink). Wear a cute lil’ bikini and have your husband wear his swim trunks.
  • Dress in something fun and black like they do for the funeral (ahem, like this Little Black Dress post) or dress in fashions like you wore in your high school days.

Memory Lane

  • Have a BBQ with a bunch of your friends or closest family members in your backyard then reminisce about “the old days” together. Periodically throughout the evening ask questions about your spouse as a kid.
  • Look through old photo albums of you and your spouse growing up. Tell each other fun stories that go along with the pictures.
  • Have a “funeral” of your own! Write down the qualities and trials of your own that you want to change or get rid of, then put them in a box and bury them together. (Or you could “cremate” them too…)
  • Start a Growth Chart in your family either in a doorway or on a tall piece of wood.
  • Talk about what you thought your life would be like when you were a kid thinking about the future, and compare it to what it is really like now.

Get In The Game

  • Go swimming at a water park, neighborhood pool, etc. Or to save money, fill up your kids swimming pool or slip n’ slide and have fun there. You can even run through the sprinklers like you did growing up or jump on the tramp with the sprinklers on!
  • Play a round of basketball to get the night started off! (The friends in the movie all grew up playing basketball together.)
  • Die the bathtub water and have a romantic candle lit bath
  • One thing I do love about Adam Sandler movies are the great soundtracks…usually music from the 80’s. Listen to 80’s music while eating dinner/making the dessert. One of my favorites is the 80’s Pop: Smooth Love Songs.
  • Play a version of the game ‘chicken’, but do NOT use a bow and arrow like they do in the movie :).  Maybe get couch cushions and run toward each other and see who chicken’s out, or who gets pummeled!

And for a yummy treat to eat while watching the movie…have a childhood favorite! Cami’s favorite homemade recipe is below!

Homemade Carmel Popcorn:

2 cups brown sugar
1 cup corn syrup
2 sticks of butter
1 can of sweetened condensed milk

Put all the ingredients in a pan and bring to 220 degrees (or if not using thermometer – let boil about 5 min), then pour over plain, popped popcorn.
