Football Date Night

Julie-Touchdown-Pinterest1

Last week I was in the mall when I saw a sign in a shop window that read We Interrupt This Marriage For Football Season. It made me laugh and think about how much my own husband loves watching football… not to the point of ‘interrupting our marriage’ but he does like keeping up with the teams.  I thought it would be fun to surprise my husband and put together an easy date to go along with the next football game we watch together.  You can use this idea as part of your Super Bowl festivities or for any college, NFL, or even high school game.

You have already scored with this date because we teamed up with the fabulous designers from Merrymint to create some fun football questions on sporty football cards just for you.  They are free and all you have to do is print them out!

Take turns with your sweetheart picking a football card.  Read the questions in green and then check the orange answer and award yourself points.  The easy questions give you a field goal and the challenging ones will give you a touchdown. (Touchdown is worth 6 points and a field goal is worth 3 points for this game.) To make your date extra special the Merrymint girls have also designed the perfect invitation for you to use, SWEET!!

Now that you’ve invited your honey and got your activities in place, all you need are some treats for the game.  How about some yummy Edy’s Touchdown Sundae Ice Cream?  Don’t you just love those mini footballs it has in it?! Yummers.  This would go perfect with my favorite touchdown treat Cowboy Cookies (I’ve had this recipe F-O-R-E-V-E-R and am not sure if they are named after the team, or some fella who rides a bucking bronco… you decide:).  To give them that extra charm, just add some M&M’s in your favorite teams colors.

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, blend 1 cup margarine, 1 cup white sugar, 1 cup brown sugar, and 2 eggs. Add ½ tsp. salt, 1 tsp. baking powder, 1 tsp. baking soda, and 2 cups flour and mix with the wet ingredients.  Add 1 tsp. vanilla and mix again.  Then add 2 cups oatmeal and 2 cups chocolate chips OR 2 cups raisins. ( I just used chocolate chips and then used M&M’s on top as well). Drop by teaspoon onto greased cookie sheets.  Bake for 10-12 minutes until they are lightly browned. Let cool slightly on baking sheets, then transfer to a cooling rack.

With these tasty treats, a great game, and fantastic company, you are guaranteed to score a win-win with this date!  If you are still up for some more football fun, check out Wendy’s date on The Blind Side, Lisa P.’s Football With Friends, or Super Bowl Super Date.

    1. Of course!! Isn’t American soccer called football in most countries:) You will just get to enjoy both sports!

  1. I actually have a pillow that sits on my couch during football season (my husbands favorite season) that reads, “We interrupt this marriage to bring you football season.” Thankfully my husbands pretty good about including the family and walking away from the less important games to spend time with us but every Saturday we’re in our teams colors and our girls from a little age knew Saturday was pizza and football day.

    1. Shelly,
That sounds like a fun way to spend time as a family:) That saying still cracks me up, and having it on a pillow is perfect!

    1. Yes Katie, he totally did (though he was wishing he was playing in the real game, I’m sure!!) He is a smarty when it comes to all things sports:)

  2. I’m planning a weekend getaway for our family THIS weekend – Super Bowl weekend. Thank Heaven the reservation guy I talked to on the phone reminded me it was Super Bowl weekend AND thank YOU for this awesome DATE!!! I’m planning a magical weekend for the family, but including football will be the icing on the cake for my sporty man!
