A Trip Down Memory Lane

Memory Lane Family Fun Date Night
Just a few weeks ago we came home from a much needed family vacation. Has anyone else noticed how much easier getaways are as a kid? I don’t know about you but now that we’re the grown-ups we get to do all the work. All I’m saying is that it makes me appreciate every road trip my parents ever planned that much more. “Thanks, Mom and Dad!'”

The checklist for taking a trip down memory lane:
1. Plan out your route {check}
2. Take a couple of these happy faces…..
…….and load them in the car like so. {check, check}
3. Grab a driver AKA husband {check}
4. Make sure you’ve got the gas to get you from Point A to Point B….and back {check}
5. And hit the road! {check, check}
Our most recent vacation took us to the lush, green state of Oregon. We called Oregon home for about 4 years and it is where we began our l’il family. What I love about it now is that it’s our home away from home. While there we moved around every year to accommodate our growing needs. During this last trip we decided to take a car ride down memory lane. With our eldest kidlets in tow, we told stories as we drove around town. Dom and I have fond memories of our time together in Portland and we enjoyed telling the tales as much as the kids enjoyed listening. As we arrived at each location I would point out the pools that we would visit daily, the hot tubs that they loved to play in, and the parks that saw our faces everyday. Each location was accompanied with a fond memory that Dom or I had with them. For example this picture was our first apartment building we ever lived in! I used to haul McKenna up those stairs to the third floor with as many bags of groceries that I could handle. Quite the workout but I don’t recommend it!! OUCH!
Interestingly enough, I was quite surprised at how curious my girls were about the places we lived. They would ask questions and want details and they couldn’t get enough stories. It was a really good bonding experience for all of us. Dom and I got to remember the excitement that we shared in the beginning of it all. Oddly, the girls even seemed to remember some of the tales we told…….mmm? (They were 1 and 2!) And the beauty of it all was that we were all secluded in our car with no distractions. No video games, no neighborhood kids, not even our youngest kids to distract us. I know that the girls really enjoyed the stories, the time, and all the attention that we were able to give them!
Do you need an activity for a Sunday drive? Or something to do while vacationing in a place you used to call home? Then this is a great one. It’s always fun to go back to good times and relive the memories!

I am a wife to one, mom to five, and pet owner to two. I consider myself very fulfilled in this journey we call life. If you were to visit my home, you would quickly discover that my kids come first and above all else. They keep me busy and on my toes, which doesn't leave a lot a wiggle room for much else. But somehow we make it all work and keep chugging along. My husband, Dom, is my rock. He helps me keep my head on straight when I need it the most. I love all the moments that I get to spend with my husband, children, family and friends. They bring me endless joy every day and I cherish them all. In my "extra" time I enjoy movies, girls nights out, date nights, shopping, projects, vacations and sometimes.........doing nothing at all!!

  1. so great! It almost makes me cry, I love reliving memories, especially the moments that my hubs and I had when bringing home our first (and only so far) baby. And our first, kiss, or where we were when we first said I love you…..AHHH….It really makes you remember why you fell in love in the first place.
    Great Job!

  2. This is so cute, Lisa. You always have wonderful ideas for how to bond with your family. I absolutely love to read your stories. Nice work!

  3. We LOVE doing these kinds of road trips…we go every couple of weeks as a family and on the way home our boys snuggle down and read or sleep and my hubby and I remember in quiet voices all of the road trips we took we when we first started dating. I rest my hand on his leg and we just enjoy being together. Thanks for sharing such a great idea!
