Recreate Your Favorite Memories

Date Night!

Have you seen the fad on social media in which siblings recreate an old family photo? It is nothing short of hilarious to see grown men and women imitate a family photo from years before! This date night follows the same idea BUT as a COUPLE! Take a stroll down memory lane with your spouse as you recreate a favorite photo from when you first met, when you were dating or a favorite memory!

Whether you have known your spouse for dozens of years or have been recently married this date night will bring you back to your first days together! Thanks to the lovely Dedra from Prettiful Designs, you have everything you need to turn this activity into one of your favorite date nights ever!

So let’s get started down memory lane!

THE INVITATION

Your first task is to set the scene! Dedra has created two completely different invitations – depending on your craftiness status!

For a simplistic version you can leave this beautiful invite somewhere for your spouse to find:

Fill out the information with all the details of your date night, roll it up and attach the invite tag.

So cute AND simple!

OR

You can get crafty and create THIS invitation for your spouse using a film roll:

While this version is definitely more intricate – it goes PERFECTLY with the night’s theme and will definitely be memorable!

Here is How to Create Your Own Film Roll Invitation

How to make a film roll invitation

Step 1: Open the Film Canister

Your first step is to obtain a Roll of Film . Perhaps you have an old one lying around, but I had to go buy one! You can also buy a pack HERE. I used pliers to remove the top of the film canister. It was a little tricky, and I scuffed the top part up a bit, but voila! It came off!

Step 2: Attach the Invitation

Use the invitation film negative to fill out all of the information for your date. Use tape to attach the right-side end to the film canister spindle. Finally, roll the paper invite tightly around the spindle until just the end is left sticking out.

Step 3: Secure It and Decorate It

Gently place the spindle (with the invite now attached) back into the film casing making sure to slide the paper through the slit. This will leave enough hanging out for your spouse to pull the invitation out! Finally add the printable designs to the outside of the film casing and the canister. For both of these, I printed the design onto sticker paper, but you could also use glue or double-sided tape.

And there you have it! Your very own personal film roll invitation – PERFECT for this date night!

DATE NIGHT

Now for the date night! The first step of the date night is to choose the picture (or pictures!) you want to recreate. Pull out your boxes or albums of old photos and look through the pictures with your spouse! Although the actual recreation of the photos is the main event of the night, don’t rush this portion of the date night! Reminiscing on past times together is half the fun!

Recreate a past photo

For our recreation I found this gem! Not only does this picture take my husband and I back in time 15 years, but it also houses so many memories! This picture is of my 17th birthday when my parents blindfolded me on our way to my birthday dinner. Without knowing, they secretly snuck my high school crush, Christian {now my husband}, into the car and asked me questions about him. These pictures perfectly capture the moment when I  remove the blindfold and realize that my crush is sitting across from me and the horror of all the giddy things I might have said on the car ride over! This picture captures Christian’s nervous embarrassment, my naivety and my mother’s pride in her matchmaking efforts!

Recreate an old photo organizer

Once you have the picture you want to recreate, you can use this free printable to organize all the details of your recreation! There are places for you to write down the clothes you will need, how you will need to wear your hair, the location for your photoshoot and any props that you might need. Those tiny details are what will really make this photo project rock! Recreating an old photo birthday dinner

Finally – it’s time to recreate your photo. Study the picture carefully as you prepare to take your picture! Consider body placement, facial expressions and camera angle as you get into place. Then – it is photoshoot time! Take several pictures – comparing your new photos to the original often and adjust as necessary.

Once your creation is taken and you are satisfied with the comparison – it is time to show it off! I highly recommend using the free site picmonkey.com to make a collage, putting the two photos side by side like this:

After you have your fabulous photos – you MUST share them with the world! You can then share your photos on the social media outlet of your choice. Remember to add the hashtag #thedatingdivas so we can see your photo recreations! You might even get highlighted!
