Go on a Blind Date – With Your Spouse!

Go on a Blind Date . . . With Your Spouse!

By the time that I was married, I had seen my fair share of blind dates. I took it as a compliment that friends and family wanted to set me up with those they loved, but after a while it became overwhelming! Each blind date brought with it the element of surprise. Knocking at your door could be the man of your dreams . . . or a nightmare! Yikes! Whether your date for the night was a a tragedy or a success – one this is sure: blind dates encouraged an element of seeking to impress your date and lots of “getting-to-know-you” questions. While you may have already snagged the man of your dreams – how fun would it be to play pretend for the night and meet them again as if for the first time?

Here are some ideas to arrange your OWN blind date night:

Make It Formal

  • Dress to impress: Sometimes in regularly dating our spouse we can get casual on our appearance for date night. After all – they have seen us at our worst, even casual can look great! But tonight – dress to impress! First impressions are everything on a blind date and you want to make a statement.
  • Set the scene: No blind date is official without the moment of answering the door. Before the big date have your spouse actually go to the front door and give it a knock while you anxiously wait inside. Remember – you have never met! Introductions will be necessary!
  • Best behavior: For this date be on your best behavior! Avoid slipping into those bad dating behaviors that you would never have done on a first date. Ladies – be polite and gracious. Thank your date for their effort and for showing you a lovely evening. Gentlemen – 100% chivalry. Open those doors, seat your lady at the dinner table and escort her by the arm. And guess what? No cell phones!

Getting To Know You

  • Tell me about yourself . . . Probably the most attractive idea about this date is getting to know the basics about your spouse in a unique way. When on a blind date – basic getting to know your questions are a must! Where are you from? Tell me about your family? What do you think about . . . etc. The possibilities are endless! You may even learn something new!
  • First Time: Remember throughout the date to view your spouse as if it were the first time. At one point you once had a first date with this person and something connected with you. This is a great time to remember what it is that started the spark and to see your spouse with those first impression eyes all over again!
  • Doorstep Scene: At the end of the night when your date walks you to the door, make sure you let them know you had a great time and if you would like to see them again. You can decide just how much you want to get to know your date from here. Where the doorstep scene leads is up to you! {Wink!}

Play It Up

  • Relive it: For those of you who were lucky enough to meet their spouse originally via a blind date, you could easily recreate your actual first date together. You don’t even have to pretend!
  • World’s Worst Blind Date Night: If you and your spouse are on the most  dramatic side, consider taking on a blind date stereotype and play that character throughout the night. Follow all of the cliches to the extreme and let the laughter begin. This version of a blind date with your spouse will guarantee one thing: you will definitely appreciate your spouse more!
  • Fast Forward: If you have had so much fun with this date (and I know you will!) try doing a little fast forward in time and dedicated a date to recreating your wedding proposal. We’ve got you covered on that!

I met my husband, in a beginning ballroom dance class at the age of 15. He was my first crush, my first date, and twelve years (to the day) later we married. Together we enjoy traveling the world, and, of course, going on creative dates! I am a former theatre teacher who now stays at home with a spunky little boy. I love dancing, hosting parties, photography, organizing & chocolate!
