“SOAK” Up The Sun Date

by

**Winning DATE Idea from our “Creative Ideas” Contest**

There were SO MANY fun & creative date ideas that were submitted.  It was EXTREMELY HARD to choose just one!!! We went back & forth, and back & forth. We are definitely going to be highlighting a LOT of those submitted ideas throughout the rest of the year, but we absolutely fell in love with this one.  One of our readers, Jen actually submitted THREE ideas and we loved every single one of them!  We were looking for an idea that was completely different from anything we’d come up with before, inexpensive, written with personality, easy for our other readers to put together… and with her fun TWIST on enjoying summer – we decided this was the winner!

“SOAK Up the Sun” Date

By: Jen Kaelber

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Summer time! :) I especially love summer time dates – who doesn’t, right? This summer I wanted to plan a fun picnic-at-the-park-type date with my hubby. Weekends did not work out for us and I just couldn’t wait any longer to take my hubby on this date… so, I stole him away during his lunch break from work. If you choose to do the same, make sure you pack him extra clothes to change into – he’ll need it for this super fun date soaking in the sun … oops … did I say soaking “in“? {lol}

Read on and try out this date with your honey! :)

I was in charge of the “Music Playlist” for our picnic lunch. We listened to the playlist while we ate our delicious picnic lunch, created by my fabulous hubby! Of course, I had to have “Soak Up the Sun” by Sheryl Crow as my #1 since that song was the title on my date invitation.  Also on the playlist were 2 other special songs, and used these songs as clues to the game that we would be playing. I made sure that I put these 2 songs last on the playlist to see if my hubby could figure out our game.

SONGS:

“Let’s Fight” – by Thompson Square

“Water” – by Brad Paisley

Hmmmmm…. is anyone thinking – WATER FIGHT?!?!?! Yup – my hubby guessed it, too! BUT, I don’t think he had any idea just what exactly I had up my sleeve!

**** GAME TIME ****

Water Fight!

… or Squirt Gun Kool-aid Fight to be more exact! :)

For this game, it is very important for players to wear dark shorts since Kool-aid can stain. It is also very important for players to wear WHITE t-shirts since seeing the amount of Kool-aid on the t-shirts will determine who the winner is (similar to paint ball). I knew we would not be keeping these t-shirts since they would soon be stained with Kool-Aid… however, I wanted them to still be special.

SO, I designed each t-shirt to “honor” my hubby…

There are probably lots of fancy ways to paint t-shirts, but I just placed alphabet letter stickers on the t-shirts, outlined them with painters tape, and painted over the stickers with fabric paint.

Once the paint was dry, I peeled off the stickers – and VOILA!

His T-shirt:  Best. Husband. EVER!

My T-shirt:  Property Of My Hot Husband

Other Items Needed for Kool-Aid Squirt Gun Fight:

1) 2 super soaker squirt guns (empty) … so the fight starts fair

2) Make 2 different colored batches of kool-aid & use empty water bottles as the containers

3) Toy shields (optional, but definitely fun!)

4) Prize for the winner (I chose a gold medal)

How to Play

#1) Put on the white t-shirts

#2) Distribute guns, shields, and 1 water bottle each

#3) Keep all other water bottles on the picnic blanket as a home base

#4) Play until all Kool-aid water is gone

#5) Winner has less Kool-aid on t-shirt :)

#5) Present medal to winner

WINNER!!!

We had an awesome, unforgettable time at the park and great memories are “soaked” into our marriage forever!

P.S. Don’t forget a towel!

P.S.S. My hubby told me to tell you all that next time (and there will be a next time) we need to have colored water balloon bombs in addition to the squirt guns!

What a darling & fun idea, huh!  You could easily turn this into a group date or even a fun family activity!  With Summer just around the corner – this will definitely make my “top ten” things to do!!

I remember doing a spin on this when I was on a group date in High School. We all grabbed squirt guns… and each couple had a different dyed colored water – so for example, my date & I had green water. We all had white shirts on…. and we “tie-dyed” our shirts by having a water fight. Great memories! xoxo

I came across this date idea and HAD to do it. So, last weekend, I made my husband and I shirts, got water balloons and water guns and set the date up. My husband was completely surprised and we had a BLAST! Thanks so much for all you guys do! I am an avid daily “checker” of this blog!
