My husband is crazy in love with lightning! It totally intrigues him more than anything else in this world. I often find late at night or in the wee-early hours of the morning, he will be sitting outside enjoying this thrilling show. I can’t lie, I love it too! Even our kids find it fascinating. I do know a few people who are terrified of of the cracklin’ sounds and lights, but remember those days you would do anything to snuggle up to the one you love?? Now is your chance! Take it… or leave it.
This date night is totally a last-minute spontaneous one. You can’t ever plan on a great storm… so as they all say… be prepared!
Here is your FREE PRINTABLE invitation that our fabulous and talented Kristen designed! I put mine on the bed post, so when my hubby came into the room he saw it first thing! I’d already grabbed some blankets to keep us warm and set up the lawn chairs on the porch, all ready to go!
While we watched our show, I made a list of cool lightning facts that neither myself or my hubby even knew! I guess we all learn something new everyday right? You can print that HERE! Just so you know, it explains the process in a way that children can understand. Simple. Just what we like!
Lightning is impossible for me to catch on camera. I have tried and tried many times. Sadly I have failed each attempt. But this sure makes for a fun activity! See who can catch the best picture on your smart phone or trade off with the camera. I give you props if you can get a good shot!
After trying to capture an amazing moment… we took out some life savers. You know the ones that spark in your mouth when you chew them?! These didn’t work as well as the ones you get rolled up in a pack next to the gum at the store. But you get the idea. We made our own sparks! It made for a very thrilling night! If you aren’t sure how this works… ehow gives a great tutorial!
And there you have it, the best last minute date night you will ever do! No meal prep, you only need to spend $1.19 on lifesavers, and it is educational and romantic at the same time! Whooo-hoo!!!
