A Sporty Date for March Madness Fans

Is your spouse a sports fanatic? Well, my husband and I are both BIG basketball fans. March is truly the ultimate month for basketball. The playoffs are looming for NBA teams and college basketball has MARCH MADNESS. Unfortunately, getting tickets to a game, finding a babysitter, getting dinner, and parking prevent us from going to actual games. However, I started thinking… why not bring the game to us… at home? I checked the games scheduled to be broadcast on our local stations and found a night/game that I knew would work with our schedule. I prepared everything throughout the day, so once the kiddos were in bed… we were off to the game… in the family room! 🙂

Kiss cam and tickets for this basketball themed date night.

I surprised my husband with tickets in his shoes the morning of our date. I wanted him to be excited throughout the day about the upcoming game and our date night! {These tickets are generic for any sporting event.}

While the game was our entertainment for most of the night, I wanted to have something to do during half-time since we couldn’t watch the performances at the actual game.

I decided to stop by the store to grab Oreos for the TASTIEST half-time contest ever, an Oreo Slam Dunk Contest!

One of my favorite things about going to an actual game is watching players dunk the ball. My husband and I did our own version of a “dunk.”  We enjoyed dunking Oreo’s in milk – but I wanted to add a little challenge. We have different challenge cards you and your spouse can draw to see what type of dunk you are required to complete… or at least attempt.

  I think this is my new favorite type of dunk!

We also did a Half-Time Hoop-Shoot. Grab a trash can/laundry basket (or this basketball hoop laundry basket if you want to go all out) and a pair of socks that’s been balled up. Place your “hoop” in an open area of the room. Use your location labels (1 point, 2 points, 3 points) to select areas in the room from which you have to shoot.

You have three rounds to get as many points as possible. This can be accomplished a few ways. We liked to set a 1-minute timer and try to get as many points as we could {from any point location} during that 60 seconds. You could also use 1 point location for each round and see how many shots you can each get during a certain time limit.

Sporting events don’t necessarily have a reputation for being super romantic… but they do have KISS CAM!

Printable Kiss Cam for you and your sweetie.
I knew we needed to have a Kiss Cam too. {We suggest printing this out on cardstock to give it a little strength} Before the game started, I told my husband each time a player made a three-point shot, he had to give me a kiss!  Even though we didn’t make the arena jumbotron, each kiss was just as good!

Well, let me tell you… this date was easy, budget-friendly and fun.  Surprise your spouse with the sporting event of their choice for your next date night!  You can’t go wrong turning a March Madness game into one unforgettable night! Save this date idea on Pinterest now, before you forget!

  1. I love Dating Divas and all the super creative ideas the ladies share. It inspires me and helps me be less stress to be able to “print and play” with the hubby. Question – can you add the game instructions to the pdf download? I get so excited reading the instructions but struggle when I’m ready to plannour date, not to have all the information and details in one location. I pull from my phone so printing from the site wastes so much paper and ink and I’m environmental friendly. Can you consider this request or write me back and tell me what I’m doing wrong???? Thanks #lesspaperMaryland.

    1. Hey Shannon! We totally understand. More and more we are doing digital invites/games etc. This is one of our older ones, but we will totally take this into consideration! We’d suggest just screen-shotting the instructions from the post for the older dates. Thanks so much for your support! Have fun!

  2. Good thoughts. The “Kiss Cam,” is a cute idea! It’d be fun to have your own. i like the Half-Time Hoop Shot. Always good to have a consolation prize in case it doesn’t happen. That way good things can happen anyway. 😉
