A Sweet Surprise at the Grocery Store for Your Spouse!

I highly dislike grocery shopping and my spouse is the same. My husband knows that when I run into the store “real quick”, that it is NEVER quick. The grocery store may not be everyone’s favorite place to go, BUT here is a fun idea that might change that! The next time you send your sweetie to the store for something “real quick”, send them with this unique Dating-Diva-approved grocery list and they will be in for a BIG surprise! Our special grocery list will send your spouse through the store not only searching for items for a delicious treat but also some sweet love notes along the way!

This grocery store date idea was inspired by a picture I found while scrolling through my newsfeed on Facebook.  A friend of mine posted this picture she took of something she came across while at the  store:

How cute is that? It is so simple, but I love this little note. It made me wonder about the thoughtful person who left it to be discovered. Was this a spur of the moment thing? Was this part of their date night? All of these thoughts inspired THIS fun, easy-to-do grocery store date idea!

Here is what you do:

Grocery Store Date Night Shopping List

Start by sending your sweetie to the grocery store with this very specific list of items you need them to pick up. With this cute printable shopping list created by the talented Carisa from Messes to Memories – it won’t take long for them to figure out that this is a VERY different type of trip to the grocery store.

The surprise? Each item on the list has a coordinating love note that you can leave for them to find! Sort of like a scavenger hunt, but better!

Grocery Store Date Night Banana Love Note Now, before your spouse gets there you need to leave these printable love notes with the coordinating items from the list. This can be a little tricky because you don’t want too much time to pass and the notes get taken down or lost.

Here are a couple of ways that you can do this:

  • You can go to the store together and plan to split up. Hand them their list and run to be one step ahead of your spouse in dropping off the notes while they follow behind gathering the items.
  • You can ask a friend or family member to help place the notes all over the grocery store for you for when your spouse arrives.
  • You could get to the store before them and set the notes out on your own. Maybe ask them to pick up the items on their way home from work and you secretly get there first!

However you decide to plant the surprises throughout the grocery store, the best part is what happens next! As your spouse goes up and down the aisles of the grocery store collecting each of the items on the list, they will find your sweet love notes along the way!
Grocery Store Date Night Ice Cream Love Note

The best part of this grocery store love note hunt is how loved your spouse is going to feel after seeing what great lengths you went to in order to surprise them. The BONUS part of this is that all those items your spouse gathered at the store? They come together for a delicious banana split dessert for two! Yum!

Love notes AND dessert?! It doesn’t get any sweeter than that!

Enjoy!

  1. You could also do this at your own house if you can’t figure out the logistics of the grocery store (without other people finding and taking your notes). For example, you could ask him to grab the chocolate syrup out of the fridge (and have the card there by it for him to find). Or if he always takes a banana to work, put the banana one by it one morning.

  2. What a great idea! I’m making a date basket to give my husband for our anniversary and I will be including this one. One modification I am making is that my cards are used as clues for the next item. For example, instead of putting the banana card on the bananas I will give it to him to start the hunt. On the bananas will be the berry card, and so on. Thanks for your amazing date ideas! My husband and I love date nights!
