A Quick and Easy Way to Plan Date Night

We live in a world where everything needs to be hassle- free and fast!  How would you like a date night bag that is always ready to go?! This date idea can be ready in a jiffy!  We know life can get hectic and this idea is something you can prepare now and have ready whenever you need it. I like to use our date in a bag whenever the kiddos are in bed and we actually have a little bit of free time or if a last-minute opportunity presents itself for a free babysitter {Thanks, Mom and Dad! ;)}.

Introducing… Date Night in a Bag!

His turn to plan date night! This Date Night Bag is a cinch to prep! (Ok, so even though it is a cinch, if you’re not ready to prep it quite yet, don’t lose this fabulous idea… PIN it!!) The first thing you need to do is grab a gift bag and glue the printable bag cover on the outside of the bag, designed by the fantastically talented Courtney of Paperelli! How cute is that cover?! She is a wizard!

Date Night in a Bag with His and Her Tags. We’ve also included “His” and “Her” tags because – here’s the best part – you and your spouse are switching off who plans date night! Let’s say that I am the first one to use the date bag, I’m going to put all the ingredients to a fun date night inside, enjoy a fabulous night with my husband, then flip the tag over that says “His” and hand that bag over! Now it is Husband’s turn.

Leave the date ideas in the bag to help plan.

This bag is perfect for those nights when you want to have date night {ahem… EVERY night? 😉 } but it’s crunch time! As soon as it’s your turn with the bag, think of a date night idea to go inside of it. We’ve included a list of some of the Divas’ fave dates {hyperlinked in the PDF for your pleasure!}. We like the idea of having them “prepped” and in a baggie or manila envelope, but you can also PIN these ideas and use it as your go-to date night resource. That way you can choose which date and just put the supplies in your date bag! Some of the dates are at-home dates and others get you out on the town.

You can also go rogue and create your own content! My husband and I wanted to see the movie, Red. So I found it online, printed off a picture of the DVD cover to go in the bag, and bought a ton of red treats to go with the movie. Voila, our date night in a bag was ready to go! Now, whenever we have a chance for a date night… we are SET. I am so excited to try out all of these dates—and how easy it is to toss a deck of cards in the bag and be ready to go?!

  1. I love your cute printables but am a bit disappointed that so many of your date night ideas involve MOVIES or NETFLICKS. would love to see more active, cultural, educational date night ideas.

    1. Hi Ellen, thank you for your input! We definitely try to create dates based on what our readers request. We are always coming out with more and would love any suggestions you have for future dates. In the meantime you should check out our Around the World date series, library and bookstore dates, our getting fit challenge or 50 Healthy and Active Dates, to name a few. One of my favorites is the Farmers Market date and the tourist in your own city (or explore a new city) since we have lived in several states across the country these dates can be done over and over with only the location or farmer’s market changing. I hope that gives you some good ideas for what you are looking for but we would LOVE to hear any ideas you’d like to see created into a date! XO

  2. I love these ideas, but I cannot get any of the printouts to fit on the paper. Every time it cuts something off. Do you have any suggestions?

  3. Hey, I came across this idea on pinterest and love it! It’s such a fun, easy and quick thing to do and I’m excited to try it out. I posted a link to your blog from mine. Thanks so much for the fun idea! Love your blog by the way, I always check it out for date ideas!

  4. “Red” was what my boyfriend & I saw on our first date. This sounds like an anniversary thing I’ll do this year. Score!

  5. I so smiled when I saw this because literally the friday during v-day week(we just exchanged cards on the 14th) my husband and I had this happen:

him: you think when you get home we can have a no cell/laptop night?
me: Yep Yep Yep!, can we have a picnic in bed (mainly where we have a made bed and eat a take-out dinner there because we typically dinner at the table, ;).) and get a redbox movie?
him: how about leftover chicken noodle stew and netflix?
    me: Okay….
him: What were you thinking, Subway?
    me: Now that sounds yummy…

then we preceded to throw out movie names and realized that redbox had two movies we wanted to see and netflix none

Soooo…..On my way home I stopped got the subs, the movies, a couple of cheap sweets and whala, Date in a Bag (it was a walgreens bag, but it worked just the same, ha), I literally thought of the corny yet sweet name right as I was walking through the door.

Im sure its because even though I hadn’t seen this post, I have been on this site many times to look for sweet at home date ideas, and hence the quick on my feet title for our spur of the moment awesome date night to end the week of love.

p.s. last month I did my own version of the Castaway date after being inspired by the one on here, which was so fun. love mixing it up.

  6. I am surprising my husband with a weekend in the mountains. I would love to give him a bag like this as his hint as to what we’re doing.
I’m thinking of an area map, new toque, hot chocolate mix….can anyone add?
    Thanks!
