Do you feel lucky in love? Want to make sure YOUR sweetheart knows how lucky you feel to have them in your life this Valentine’s Day? I’ve put together a quick, very easy tutorial of the perfect INEXPENSIVE Valentine’s Gift for your spouse.

I love scratch-off tickets. I love the anticipation as you rub that penny across the ticket waiting to see what you’ve won/earned underneath. I decided to make that the basis of my gift for my Husband this Valentine’s Day.

Start by gathering your supplies:

  • Lucky in Love cards printed on cardstock
  • Paper cutter
  • Marker/pen
  • Paint brush
  • Metallic acrylic paint
  • Dish soap
  • Contact Paper OR clear packing tape

I decided to make my Lucky in Love with one per day for him to scratch off. So I printed the page 4 times (there are 4 to a sheet and I needed at least 14.) After cutting them out, I wrote out my messages.

You could write a variety of things each day; quotes, love notes, activities/something to do each day, coupon, etc. For mine I chose to write a number on each card (1 – 14) and then something that corresponded to that number AND our relationship. So for example: 2 Beautiful Children Together AND 6 Semesters of Medical School Completed AND 5 Years of Being Married to my best friend. It definitely took some time and creativity to come up with something for each number. {And some are definitely better than others!)

Now it is time to paint! Instructions of how to make the scratch off ticket were found here but essentially it is one part dish soap added to two parts metallic acrylic paint. MY TIPS: I was originally going to get the silver metallic paint, but when I got to the store they were out. I found the bright red metallic paint and it ended up matching the cards PERFECTLY! Also, instead of using contact paper (or laminating…which some comments suggested), I just put a piece of clear packing tape on the card. It worked beautifully! So much easier then cutting out contact paper.

Give it a few hours to dry. You may need to do more then one coat of paint. I did 2 coats and it covered the pen completely, but I wrote the numbers in permanent marker and a little of that showed through.

Then string them up on the wall or put them in envelopes…whatever you want to do! Don’t forget to give your Valentine a penny to scratch the card and see your message.

This gift is sure to let any valentine know that you are lucky to have them!

  1. I did this for my boyfriend for V-day this year (Except I made my card). I found that if you put white crayon under the paint it scratches off perfectly! It works better then tape!
