St. Patrick’s Day Scavenger Hunt Activity
This year, pull off a fun and memorable St. Patrick’s Day activity as a couple OR for the whole family! This easy St. Patrick’s Day Scavenger Hunt is so unique! Not only are there 8 different clues that will lead you through your home, but there are challenging tasks the family needs to complete before moving on to their next clue. This is the ultimate St. Patrick’s Day challenge! Check it out below!
Scavenger hunts are a sure way to get the whole family happy and moving! So go have fun this St. Patrick’s Day with our St. Patrick’s Day scavenger hunt! Not only is it great for the family, but it can even be turned into a Leprechaun Hunt for the classroom. With St. Patrick’s Day riddles on each clue, your family members (or students) are going to love it!
Preparing the Scavenger Hunt
First, start by printing out these fun clue bags for your hunt! Our talented designer, Crystal Nale from the site A Well Feathered Nest, created these colorful designs that you can print right onto a paper bag! In our opinion, a rainbow of colors just HAS to be a part of St. Patrick’s Day! 😉
If you don’t want to do that, then just print out the bag tags and glue or tape them to the cover of the bags!
Next up: the riddles! These St. Patrick’s Day riddles are so fun to read through, and exactly what you want in a scavenger hunt: clever and done for you! 😉
Simply attach the clue cards to the bottom of each bag to lead your hunters to the next clue. You can use glue, or tape – just make sure they will stick so they don’t get lost!
After the clues and covers are on, then fill each bag with one of the various task activities! (It doesn’t matter which activity goes in which bag. There’s no required order except for the last one – explained below.) These are the challenges the family will have to complete before reading their next clue! Not only are they fun, but they help your family work together and bond.
So, the challenges include:
- Lucky Dice Roll
- Unmix the Tricks
- Gold Coin Search
- Leprechaun Notes
- Your Leprechaun Name
- Green Item Hunt
- Don’t Eat Pete {the leprechaun} Game
Finally, place all the clue bags in the various locations around the home indicated by the clues! Besides the first clue that explains the game and the final sign, it doesn’t matter which order you go in. To clarify, we tried to keep the clues generic to fit any home!
You can set up a clue bag in the following locations of your home:
- The Fridge
- Laundry Room
- Front Door
- Mailbox
- Bath Tub
- Bed
- Bathroom Sink
- TV
Then, place this sign (pictured above) at the final location of the last clue. I think it would be fun to have a fun St. Patricks Day treat at the end for everyone to enjoy, but anything green will do! We have a 25+ St. Patrick’s Day Treat ideas if you need any suggestions. Specifically, idea #10 would be perfect for this scavenger hunt!
How to Do the St. Patrick’s Day Scavenger Hunt
When it is time to play, gather your spouse and/or family and present them with the first clue which explains:
“Leprechauns have been tiptoeing around,
Leaving Shamrocks on the ground.
Following rainbows will not do,
You must find the clovers and find the clues.
To get your clue that leads to your pot of gold,
You must complete the tasks as they unfold.”
That clue then sends them to their first location where they race to find the “Lucky You” clue bags!
Once they have found their location and their clue bag, have them open the bag to reveal the challenge that they must complete before reading their next clue! Each challenge includes an explanation card and some sort of printable to go with the game. (My girls LOVED the Green Hunt! Look at all of their loot! It’s one of my favorite St. Patrick’s Day scavenger hunt ideas in this set!)
After successfully completing the challenge, your scavenger hunters can now peak on the bottom of the paper bag to read their next clue! There are different activities that all members of your family can participate in. As long as there is someone to read the details, then you should be all set! It’s totally appropriate for all ages, too!
Without question, these clues AND challenges make for a fun St. Patrick’s Day that is filled with memories!

I love this whole post! I printed everything. Just a quick question do you present this as a hunt that the parents set up or the Leprechaun? My kids are on the boarder of believing still in magical visitors thinking it would be better if I say I created it.
You could do either way! I personally just present this as a family fun activity that mom put together, but the leprechaun idea could be very fun!

You have done a wonderful job on the hunt. We are using it for our Condo St. Patty Party. I was wondering if there is an updated version of the hunt as there is a mistake in the word scramble. Four leaf clover is missing the e and i can’t figure out the first one. I know my blond is showing. Thank you for the great idea’s.

For your question about the activity, are you asking about the coins? The idea is to cut out the coins (we suggest a large whole punch!) and hide them in the room. Race to find them all (there are 22 total).

Great question Kayla! In each of the bags, you place an activity. The “Just a Note” printables so with the activity that mentions that says something like “your love must be told” In this activity you take time to write a note of gratitude or love to someone. Then, you can be a sneaky leprechaun later to hide it for them to find! I hope that clarifies things. Enjoy the hunt – it is one of my favorites!

I am sorry that you are having difficulties. Because the file was so large we have the printables in 2 sections. If you click on “Bag Templates” you will get the bag portion and then you can click on the “Activity and Clue Cards” to get the rest. Are you clicking on the “Activity and Clue Cards” link?

Every year I make a print out a new sort of treasure hunt to do with my son and here it is the night before St. Patrick’s Day and I realized I completely forgot. I went searching and found this and can’t tell you how glad I am that I actually forgot. I absolutely love your idea of tasks to do with each clue.
