Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader Game Overview
We don’t want to know who is smarter than a 5th grader; we want to know who is the smarter spouse! To play, one spouse will step up to be the contestant. The other spouse will act as the “classmate.” They will also answer the questions, but they will not be trying to earn money —yet. Their answers will be used if the contestant spouse chooses to peek or copy!
In our 2-player version of this game, each player has a gameboard with ten different Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader questions that increase in difficulty.
Each gameboard also has a section to record earnings, as well as available “cheats.” The contestant can use the “peek”, “copy”, and “save” options if they are unsure of the answer.
The object of the game is to get as many questions right as possible. Each correct answer earns increasing monetary amounts as represented on the side of the gameboard. So check off a money bubble for each correct answer you get.
But because we’re The Dating Divas, and we’re all about strengthening marriages, of course we included a way to make this exclusively about you and your sweetheart. At the end of the game, you will be able to pull out the “Intimacy Earnings Chart” and spend your earnings intimately as a couple! Wahoo!
After one contestant finishes the game or uses all of their cheats and is eliminated by answering incorrectly, they will make a note of their earnings for later, and you will swap roles as the contestant and the classmate.
At the end of the two games, each spouse will have collected their winnings and will be able to spend them using the Intimate Earnings Chart!

How to Play The Are You Smarter THan a 5th Grader Game

You will need to print two copies of the game board. When you are the contestant, you will use the game board to select grade-level trivia questions and mark off your earnings after each correct answer. Then, when you are the classmate, use the back of your gameboard to answer each question.
Cut out each Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader question from the first trivia card page. Then, find the coordinating answer page and keep it nearby to check answers.
To start the game, the contestant will choose and check off a category from their gameboard. Next, the classmate will grab the color-coordinated trivia question. The contestant will select an answer, and the classmate will check the answer cards to determine if this answer is correct. If the contestant is right, they will check off a bubble on the earnings chart.
When the contestant does not know the answer to a question, they can peek, copy, or be saved.
To use the peek, the classmate shows the contestant the answer they selected and explains their reasoning. The contestant can choose the same answer as the classmate, or if they disagree with their reasoning, they can choose a different answer.
To use the copy, the contestant must use the answer written by the classmate.
Finally, the save is used if the contestant selects the wrong answer. After each cheat is used, cross it out on the gameboard.
The game is over when the contestant answers incorrectly and has already used their save. They should circle their final earnings and switch roles with their spouse. The contestant becomes the classmate, and the classmate becomes the contestant, using the second page of trivia questions and their own gameboard.

Look at your gameboard and see how much money you earned. Then, pull out the Intimate Earnings Chart and select your prize. No one will care who answered the most Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader questions correctly because everyone wins with this chart! 😉
