An At-Home Summer Camp Idea for Kids
Oh summer! The season kids yearn for all school year can quickly lose its appeal for parents after a few days of “I’m bored!” on repeat. The Divas thought we needed to do something to help out, and Kids Camp was born! These to-die-for printables will inspire a little backyard summer camp for your kiddos. The printables focus on Astronomy, Survival, Flora, Fauna, and a “Free Space” to add whatever topic really interests you and your little ones.
Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean we’re going to stop learning! We like to do activities that allow our kids to be creative and imaginative and help them gain knowledge – enter Kids Camp! There are 4 different categories that we selected, plus a blank category for you to fill in based on your little one’s needs and interests. The printables include an adorable journal cover, tabs, wristbands, certificates, and letters “home!”
The journal is super easy to prepare – cut the borders off of the print with your favorite paper cutter and slap it on a notebook! {We used a composition notebook} To help it stick on you can use double sided tape, glue, or {our trusty favorite} glue dots! You could even Modge Podge it for extra strength and sustainability.
If your kids like adding graphics we also have you covered! Courtney designed the cutest little camp designs that are easily cut out and added to the cover. We like to use a PenBlade to keep the lines nice and sharp.
Once your cover is ready, move on to organizing with these cute labels. The tabs can be used two ways depending on the size of your journal. With a composition notebook, we glued them in vertically. But, if you have a full size notebook you are using, you could also use them horizontally. These tabs will keep the different projects from each section organized and easy to find.
Kids love wristbands. Make your Kids Camp extra special by providing a wristband for each topic! We used a pen blade to slice an opening to slide the t-shaped end in. If you’re worried about rips – tape it or laminate it!
We always love reading those funny letters that kids write their parents and we wanted to give the kiddos a chance to tell us what they thought about Kids Camp. These letters could be for you, a grandparent, or just to add to the journal. We included one blank 5 x 7 stationary page, and one 5 x 7 that included some sentence starters to help out those early writers.
Camp wouldn’t be camp without awards and certificates! There are two options: Certificate of Completion and a specific award. {We love the idea of silly awards for each kid, like “Best S’more-chitect.” Get it?!}
The printable pack is basically designed for 1 kid, so print out however many you need for the number of kids who will be “camping out!”
Before we let you go, we thought you might like some ideas about what to do for each of the units. Not to worry – the Divas {with the help of the world wide web} have got your back! Take theses ideas, add your own, and make Kids Camp as long as you want! Each unit can be one day, or, you could study a topic for a week doing a different activity each day.
