Kirk Voss is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who works with individuals, couples, and families to address a variety of emotional and mental health issues.Kirk received his Master’s degree in Family Studies: Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Maryland. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Utah. Kirk is a member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, and he is fluent in English and Portuguese. He has worked as a therapist in both inpatient treatment and outpatient community therapy clinics in both Maryland and Utah. He also worked for several years at LDS Family Services and he is now a Referred Provider for that agency. Kirk works with clients from all backgrounds and religions, typically teenagers and adults. He believes that what often brings clients to therapy is their loss of balance—either a desire to attain a personal balance and positive well-being, or to restore balance which has been lost. Finding a healthy personal balance can involve improving self-care; improving self-worth; clearing the “clutter” of negative thinking; addressing past and present emotional injuries; deepening and healing close relationships; and addressing stress, anxiety, and depression. Kirk focuses especially on the quality and healing of relationships in both marriage and families.

A few of the divas had a chance to share a date night with Amber Creek AND we have great things to say about them!

“Before my husband and I were married, we decided that we would not wait until our relationship was in trouble to learn skills and tips to improving our marriage. When we heard about the opportunity for a date night at Amber Creek, we jumped at the chance and we are glad we did. The class we attended was not only informative, but motivating. I left with a desire to be a better spouse and felt I was given tools and focused goals to do so. I particularly enjoyed the non-threatening atmosphere. It was more of a classroom setting (which was not what I expected!) and I was never put on the spot or made to feel uncomfortable. For anyone seeking to improve their marriage (and aren’t we all?) I highly suggest looking into Amber Creek’s services.”  – Sarina

“I was in an emotionally abused, lonely, and depressing relationship for 6 years before I decided to get a divorce, which was the hardest decisions I had to make at that time. One of the huge lessons I learned from that marriage was that marriages are tricky!  I decided that the next time I planned to get married that I was going to implement counseling into our relationship. I wanted to make sure we worked on any possible issues, learned each others communication and love types, and understood how to overcome possible obstacles that would come our way. Needless to say, I didn’t want any surprises or marital trouble coming my way!  Enter into the picture, Mr. RIGHT! Luckily, my darling husband agreed to jump on the counseling wagon, even though he’s not a huge fan. Our marriage isn’t a fixer upper but we are giving 110% percent to make sure it never becomes one.  We constantly read marriage books together, attend counseling as preventative measures, and continually strive to make our marriage better.
Of course when I heard about date night at Amber Creek, I jumped at the opportunity to attend. I was completely impressed with the wealth of knowledge and information Kirk taught us.  He captivated our attention with the material he presented in an organized and friendly manner.  Not only did he teach us but he fed us too, what more could you ask for?!  We thoroughly enjoyed date night at Amber Creek!  We left with a few tips that we’ve implemented into our daily routines.  Since this night, we brag about Kirk and his counseling services to all our friends and family. Obviously, for anyone wanting to make their marriage ah-maz-ing, I highly recommend seeking counseling services and attending date night with Kirk at Amber Creek.”  – Michelle

  1. What a great resource! I would love to learn how to resolve conflict more easily – or avoiding it altogether would be even better! 🙂

  2. Sounds like something that would be beneficial all around, resolving conflict and understanding my partner better wouod be two that I am interested in.

  3. I love all of your awesome ideas to strengthen the most important relationship I have…. It sounds like they have so much to offer and my husband and I would really benefit from it! Here’s to hopin’! 🙂

  4. Love this! Hubby & I are expecting our first baby, so while we currently don’t have any serious marital issues, I think we could benefit from some pre-baby counseling. 🙂

    Good luck everyone!

  5. I would have to say that the setting boundaries with relative is our biggest issue, that we can’t seem to agree on. So that would be a topic for us to work on.

  6. I love this idea. My husband and I are going through a rough patch in our marriage. He suffers from depression, ADHD, and other issues. He just started some medication to hopefully help him to focus in school. He lost his job a few months ago and we just had our second baby after a month and a half of strict bedrest. Stress is a major factor in our relationship issues. Another big factor to our problems is that my husband has decided he doesnt believe or consider himself LDS anymore. This has also been straining on our marriage. i hate not feeling close to my spouse anymore. There is so much dividing us right now, it breaks my heart. Any advice or extra help would be wonderful.

  7. What a great giveaway. DH and I are currently looking into some type of online counseling as we are having some difficult communication issues. And the thought of going in and talking to someone live is intimidating and I don’t think we can bring ourselves to do it. This would be an awesome giveaway to win! Thanks for offering it! 🙂

  8. My husband and I have been married for 18 years in August, and are best friends, but we have been through some rough times the past year, and I know this giveaway would be a perfect way for us to reconnect and relax! So hope we win! Thank you for the opportunity!

  9. I would love to win this for me and my husband.
We would love to hear about all of the topics. There isn’t really just one that we need most.
    Thank you for the opportunity!

  10. We’ve always been pretty good at communicating, but I still think there is room for improvement in that regard; and I’m always looking for more ways to keep that flame fanned!

  11. I think my fiancé and I would need the keeping emotionally connected seminar. He is a police officer and has times that talking to me about his day is not an option. We also work completely opposite times. In a day and age that over 50% of police marriages end in divorce, I feel the class would give us a better foundation.

  12. I’d be so excited to take this opportunity to prevent a fixer-upper marriage! 🙂 I think we could especially benefit from the “avoiding pitfalls (selfishniss, laziness, detachment)” portion…Well, okay, all topics…

  13. I think all of them sound very interesting, but if I have to pick 2, I would say 1. understanding your partner and being understood and 2. staying emotionally connected

  14. Even though I hate to admit it- we probably need to work on Understanding Your Partner & Being Understood and Staying Emotionally Connected. I’d love to find out how we can do that!

  15. I’m so glad we can learn skills from others to improve and learn to make a better relationship. I’d love to learn about Avoiding Relationship Pitfalls: Detachment, Laziness, Selfishness, Infidelity, Pornography and Staying Emotionally Connected!

  16. Right now “Staying Emotionally Connected” would be a huge benefit for my husband and I. We literally finished this topic in a recent discussion when I pulled up your website and saw this.

  17. Being newlywed’s there is so much to learn in the first year of marriage! I think this is an excellent Idea for a give away, and sounds like a unique date night that will strengthen any marriage.

    1. The topic I am interested in is reasonable and unreasonable expectations. It would be great to have reasonable expectations from the beginning so I don’t scare my poor new husband away!

  18. Would love to win this! I really think me and my husband could benefit from these classes. Communicating effectively is probably at the top of my list. My husband was deployed for a long time and seems like he came back a different person than what I married. I feel like a class like this would help us so much!

  19. I cannot stop thinking about this giveaway! I want to win so bad! Thank you for all the fun advice & thanks for doing such a fun (& beneficial!) giveaway!

  20. I’d love to win this! Trying to get DH to enter counseling for his depression, I had to enter it for myself too b/c I couldn’t handle things anymore. Would love to win something like this!

  21. How to build our best emotional strength and keeping the fire alive! With 3 kids 3 and under it can be difficult to keep that fire going specially when you have only one family member who can watch the kids overnight.

  22. I would love to learn how communicate effectively. Communication plays such a big role in a marriage. It’s always good to learn how to communicate better1

  23. Understanding your partner and being understood would be what I looked forward to the most. After six years of marriage I think we forgot to take time and truly listen to each other and learn how we have grown and what we need and want in order to move forward together in a healthy way. Sounds soon exciting..I honestly don’t know if this could have come at a better time. Thank you so much!!!!

  24. I am most excited for the topic about keeping the fire alive. We are having time in our relationship to find time to keep the fire alive because of our two year old son. We love him with all our heart and won’t trade him for anything but we really need some advice when it comes to balancing being parents and being a couple. I have been turning to this website a lot lately for idea and have used so many. But I am always willing to hear more ideas.

  25. They all sound really great, and it’s hard for me to decide… But I think I would choose Keeping the Fire Alive or Avoiding Relationship Pitfalls.

  26. Keeping the Fire Alive – this one seems to be my/our biggest struggle, at least! Kids and jobs and laundry and schedules make it really difficult.
