    1. This date is best played with a minimum of 12 players. You could do it with 8, but there would be a lot of holes in the story. So, maybe grab 4 more friends?

    1. That is an interesting question. I don’t want to discount major creativity that COULD make it possible, but I don’t think this would work well virtually. The game includes interactive challenges and conversations that you need to have one on one mixed with observing people’s behaviors. I don’t know that that would work will virtually. I am so sorry!

  1. This looks like so much fun! I’ve always wanted to have a date night like this, and your kit will make it so easy and doable! Thanks!

  2. This looks so fun! We’re considering doing this for a birthday party for my wife and had a question: is this “PG rated”? Occassionally, these murder mystery games tend towards the lewd or suggestive…?

    1. This is absolutely PG-rated! I have done many murder mysteries and share the same concern as you. It was a priority when we created this that the character’s backgrounds and storylines be appropriate and family-friendly. While the theme is murder, the basis of the game is clean. If you have ever done a murder mystery game with characters before, they can often be filled with affairs, dark secrets, drug abuse and other non-family friendly things. This game doesn’t have any of that.

  3. Looks so fun! I have a couple of questions. Do you have to have exactly 12 players? Could it work with more or less? Also, is it six boys and six girls? Could that be adjusted?

    1. Great question Maegin! Our murder mystery game is designed to play with a minimum of 12 guests. Each guest has an important role and clues to provide so leaving out a character is possible, but would leave a gap in the game. If you choose to have more than 12 guests, we suggest making them Paparazzi or Detectives. While these guests will not have a formal character name or
tasks, their objective is to interview the other characters and find out as much information as they can about the suspects. They can pry, accuse, and guess the murderer just as any other assigned character!
Also – when you purchase the pack you will receive a very detailed host guide that will walk you through the character assigning process.
Good luck! Let us know if you have any other questions.

  4. Can the murder mystery be broken up over the course of 3-4 days (50 min.) each day? I’m thinking of end of year activity with students.

    1. As a former teacher, I can tell you that this is possible but might be a little tricky. The only thing that I can think of that might be a problem is that certain characters are crucial to uncovering clues and if there were to be absent that might cause a problem.
One thing that I did do with my students that worked perfectly in one class period (and still included mysteries and characters) is our Who Dun It? Detective mystery game. It is a live version of the board game Clue. There are suspects and detectives but it moves very quickly and can be played again and again (great for time management in the classroom!). It will also be much easier for you to set up (always a plus at the end of the school year!) You can find that here:
      Good luck!

  5. Hi! This looks so fun! Can it be done with a group of less than 12 people? I’m thinking of 4 couples, so 8 people total. Thanks for making this available πŸ™‚

    1. This particular murder mystery activity does require a minimum of 12 people (6 couples). While it IS possible to eliminate characters, your guests playing will really miss out on all of the clues and will have certain tasks that they might not be able to complete. An alternative that you might want to look into is our Whodunit? Mystery Detective Game? Link here: This game requires 8 people and would be a fun evening of mystery!

  6. I purchased this murder mystery last November for our young marrieds bible study group and everone had a BLAST! They’ve been asking me when we can do another one!

  7. Hello!! I am looking at getting the Murder Mystery party set. Two questions: 0ne, is it appropriate for kids about the age of 17? Two, not all of my friends that I am planing to invite are in a relationship. Is there any way I could make some edits to the game to make it a lil more “single” friendly?

    1. Great questions Mitchell!
This game is completely appropriate for 17 year old kids. When we set out to create this murder mystery we wanted to keep it clean and fun! I have done plenty of murder mysteries where I have learned later in the game that my character has some super inappropriate secrets that I was meant to divulge. You will not find that in this kit!
When you purchase the kit, the host guide will help walk you through the assignment of characters. You will find that of the 12 characters, there are 6 specific characters that have a convenient matching counterpart (so, 3 couples) This is not necessary, but these characters will flirt with each other quite a bit and that will obviously be more comfortable if they are comfortable with each other.
The game should completely be single friendly – there are 6 other characters that have zero love interest storylines!
If you have any other questions – feel free to reach out!

  8. Did the person who wrote in about modifying the game for her 15 year old daughter ever order and modify? I was thinking of doing the same. Just wondering if it worked out for them.

    1. Sandra, I know a few Divas have modified the game to fit their needs but I am not sure about this particular reader! I’m sorry I am not more help on that!

    1. Hevelyn, not yet, but that is such a great idea! We will have to get that in the works! Thank you so much for your suggestion. XO

  9. Hi! I am interested in purchasing the Murder Mystery “Red Carpet Revenge” Group Date Night kit, but I currently have more than 12 people that have RSVP’d. Is the game specific to 12 people, or would 18-20 people also be adequate for the game? Your quick response is greatly appreciated!

    1. That is a great question! There are 12 suspects in the case with specific objects to complete and secrets to hide. However, you can add as many other people to this game as you want! Your extra guests can be paparazzi (to go with the Hollywood theme),film crew, reporters, other actors or even servers. Those extra guests can still speak with all of the suspects and try to solve the mystery. The only difference is that they are not suspects themselves and their only task is to solve the mystery (not keep any secrets of their own). I hope that helps and that you love this game!

  10. Hi!

I just purchased the Murder Mystery date and am excited for our upcoming party! I’m getting ready to send out the invites and character descriptions. Do the guests receive their full character description prior to the party or just the brief description? I don’t want to reveal too much too soon.

    1. Hi Ava! Great question! When we did it as a group we got a partial description with our invitation- more like a background story of our character but there were definitely some major details that were left out until the date! There was also a darling little costume suggestion on the invite so I definitely think will know everything they need to know ahead of time! I hope that helps! XO

  11. We are looking for a fun Murder Mystery Dinner Date night and yours looks great- we have never hosted one and wanted to get a better idea of how this would work- does your package include games and things to do through out the evening?

    1. Hello Katie! This murder mystery in itself is the game for the evening! Each character has different tasks that they need to complete and information to divulge (or not!). The game takes about 2 hours from start to finish and it is all outlined in the kit step-by-step. If you have any more specific questions – feel free to ask me and I can tell you all about it. I have hosted it twice now and both have been successful!

    1. Yes, absolutely you can! Just don’t look too closely at the details on the cards πŸ™‚ We’ve had a lot of people do that with a lot of success!

  12. I’ve been hunting all across the internet for a reasonable, not too deep, sun murder mystery and this looks like the perfect one! I just have one question… I was really hoping to make it a murder mystery over dinner! Would this be adaptable to work while eating dinner? Or is it a game that’s needed to be played standing and walking around?
Thank you!! Can’t wait to try it out!

    1. Hey Lydia! YES! Right?! It really is a blast to play. Yes, it absolutely can work over dinner, but personally, I think it works a bit better when people are walking around divulging juicy secrets to only certain people. (Some you don’t want all to hear — know what I mean?) So, what I would probably do, is serve dinner, and have people introduce themselves and their characters while they eat — nothing else. (No asking questions, etc.) You could have Clark give his little welcome speech. Then, after dinner, you could serve some yummy finger foods for dessert and let people mingle. That’d be my plan of attack! Enjoy! It’s perfect for this time of year!

  13. This looks so fun!! Does the kit come in the mail or is it a download that we get to have on our computer and then we print everything?

    1. Hi Destri! This is a download that will be emailed to you, so yes, you will print it out on your own. However, you only need to print a few of the pages, not the entire kit πŸ™‚

  14. I have a questions, similar to many of the others who have commented but slightly different. I am interested in purchasing this for a mixed age group – my husband and I, 7 or 8 teenagers (14-18 years old) and two 10 year olds. Is it worth trying to adapt? How difficult do you think it would be to make work for our group? It does seem difficult to find something for older kids that is clean enough but not so simple and childish. It looks like you have done a tremendous job of putting this together. Impressive.

    1. Hi Stacey!

First of all, thank you for the compliment! It was a lot of work, but it’s fun to see it carried out and to see people having such a great time with it. We’ve heard rave reviews about doing this with teenagers, but no one (at least that I know of) has done it with 10 year olds. A murder does take place at the party, obviously very subtly -i.e; no blunt force trauma of any sort, but it does happen. There is also mild romance (love notes, kissing, etc.) as this was written for married couples in mind. I do think it could be easily adapted, so long as you have the required 12 players, and combed through each character task card to remove anything you aren’t comfortable with the young ones doing. (i.e: sneaking away for a kiss!) You could replace those tasks with more innocent ones, such as, “Sweep the crime scene for any additional clues”, or “Write a note to hand to the detective that says everything you know.” It really is a fun one! Good luck with the decision, I know what a pain it is to find good, clean content with these!

  15. This looks like so much fun, but I’m working on a girl’s night only party. Do you have something available for girls only?

    1. Hey Tracy! A girls night sounds like a blast! This specific game was designed with married couples in mind, so this pack probably wouldn’t be the best fit. It could potentially work, but you’d have to remove so much of the story and change many characters to females – so much work, and I can’t guarantee the end result would be as amazing as it is playing with guys/husbands! You could also check out our Who Dunit? Group date night – I’ve never played it, but I think it could probably be played with all females. See it here: We DO have a few other really fun party kits, like this absolutely amazing Girls Night Out party pack that I’ve used and highly recommend – – OR this really fun Favorite Things party. I did this one recently with my girlfriends and it was super fun! (I am in love with the printables). Good luck, I am sure you will find the perfect fit!

  16. Thank you so much for this! I bought this to play for my twin daughters sweet 16 birthday and the kids LOVED it! They really had a blast and I couldn’t believe how much they got into their roles…. we had boys comes dressed up with a walking cane and suspenders and all! Supa FUN night!!

  17. Hello,
I’m planning to have a murder mystery dinner party for my husbands surprise birthday party. Is this only suitable for couples and does it have to be even number 6 girls and 6 guys.? There will be about 24 people attending the party including family so wondering if this would work? Not everyone has a date either. Thank you!

    1. Hey Daria!

That is so fun that you are hosting a party! Overall, yes, this is geared specifically towards couples. There are tasks for each character to complete that are romantic (innocent, of course, but involve things like flirting, love notes, etc.) You will need 6 guys and 6 girls for sure, and it’s ideal if the main characters are all in a relationship with another person attending the party. The guide explains more about which couples need to be paired with which roles. Now, as for the extras – they of course can play a role! They can be paparazzi, journalists, raving fans, you name it. They won’t have any EXCLUSIVE secrets to share, but they will be able to listen in on the conversations, share rumors that they overhear, and help solve the crime. That is a lot of extras, but it still would be a blast!

  18. So we love the idea of a murder party. Thinking of buying this for my daughter’s 16 Birthday. If I ran into the problem that I have two or three more guest then the 12 required would you help me with aging the rest of the people in

    1. This would be so much fun for a birthday party! If you have more guests – they can be members of the paparazzi/press. Just as any of your guests, they can ask questions to the suspects and make accusations. Good luck! I hope you enjoy this!

  19. My daughter is thinking of having a murder mystery sleepover for her 15th bday, can this be modified for all girls?

    1. You COULD always try and see if you can work something out; you’d have to read through each character and make some pretty heavy changes to each task card. Nothing is impossible as far as changes you want to make, but it would be quite a bit of work! It’s pretty gender-specific, meaning that there is flirting and budding relationships going on between characters (husband and wife in real life. We wrote it with married couples in mind.) I know there are a few all-women murder mystery games on other sites, but I’m thinking they probably aren’t all that appropriate for 15 year olds.

  20. This looks like so much fun and I’m so relieved that things are kept clean and between married couples. I went to a murder mystery party once where my husband’s character was in a relationship with another girl’s character! Kind of uncomfortable! Another thing I remember about that party is that the mystery couldn’t be solved. We all made our guesses at the end but the real killer was some weird twist that was impossible for anyone to guess! I felt like it was a waste. Can this mystery be solved with the details given to the guests? A challenge is good but an impossible twist is a waste of time and money. πŸ™‚ Thanks!

    1. Hey Cherish! I am so glad you think it looks like a lot of fun…because it IS! Yes, it is definitely clean, and there is no flirting/relationships outside of already “real-life” couples. We are not interested in any of that, that is for sure! Oh my goodness, how sad and boring?! What a strange way to end such a fun night! Well, without giving too much away, this mystery does have one of the characters as the murderer, and yes, it is solvable. No impossible twists, that is for sure! When we played it, everyone seemed to have a lot of fun guessing and there were lots of people as suspects, so I think we struck a pretty good balance. Let me know if you have any other questions! πŸ™‚

  21. Got it, played it and LOVED IT!! This was the first Murder Mystery Party I’ve ever hosted and it was so much fun and went so smoothly! The directions were clear to follow and each character plot is so thought out and interesting! Everyone at the party had such a fun time, we’re already planning our next group date, probably the White Elephant Party! Thanks girls!

    1. Oh JESS! Thank you so so much! I am so happy that you loved it! It really is so unique and fun…definitely a night to remember! Glad to hear it was all clear for you as well πŸ™‚ Fewf!

  22. This looks so fun! And it’s so professional looking! I’ve only been to one Murder Mystery night before and it was a blast πŸ˜€ I think I might give my parents this kit for Christmas this year, they finally have time for themselves and their own friends now that all their children are so grown up now πŸ™‚

Is there any way for me to buy the kit without using the link above? It doesn’t seem to be working for me (I just get an error message).

    1. Hey Sandra! Thank you so much for the wonderful compliments! This pack was just so much work to put together, it really warms my heart to hear you say that! That’s the nice thing about being an Empty Nester, huh? I’m in the really-young-children-everywhere phase, and it’s pretty tiring, but wonderful in it’s own way πŸ™‚ I’m sure your parents will love the pack! I’m really sorry for the trouble with the link. I asked some of the other Divas to test it out, and it was working fine for everyone else, so I’m not sure what the issue could be! Maybe clear your cache? Regardless, here is a direct link to our store where you can make the purchase! Thank you so very much!

  23. I would love to do this party, but quite a few people in our group of friends are single. Is there a way that we could still do the party without the date night aspect? Thank you so much!

    1. Hey Meredith! This is a great question! It definitely will still work! Not all of the characters have romantic tasks, and about half are “single” within the game (they don’t need to be paired with anyone). If ALL of your friends are single, the task sheets for some of the characters will need some editing – (I can help you with that if you need and tell you what you will need to cross out). We wrote it with couples in mind, so there is some very tame and mild romance between characters (writing love notes, kisses on the cheek, smelling of hair…ha!) There are 3 of these couples. (So 6 people total need to be seeing someone). The other 6 people can be single. Does that make sense? Let me know if you have any other questions! πŸ™‚

  24. This makes me so happy to see you guys made one of these!! We have been thinking about doing a Murder Mystery Party for our Halloween activity for awhile. I am in a young married student ward (Everyone is married and going to college) There would be more than 12 of us… Do you think we could make this work? Maybe randomly assign key parts to some people and have the rest just trying to figure out the mystery? Could you maybe give me a little more details before I decide for sure if I should buy it? Thank you so much!

    1. Hey Amanda! We are so excited we did one, too! πŸ™‚ Oh, married student wards are so MUCH FUN! So do you want to do it for a ward activity? If so…probably wouldn’t work, unfortunately. Bummer! (I’m assuming you probably have 200-ish people in your ward…that would be a no-go! Craziness! Ha!) BUT – you definitely can have more than 12 attend. You are exactly right; assign out the key roles to your “main 12”, and then have the rest come as paparazzi, raving fans, or anything else you can think of! They can listen in on/spread the gossip from others, but they just won’t have any major stories to tell themselves. They can help solve the mystery, too! πŸ™‚ We don’t have set “invites” for these types of players in the kit, but all they need to know is the location, time and date of the party, to come in 20’s fashion, and get ready to solve a mystery! Personally, I don’t think I’d invite more than 24 people – I wouldn’t want more “extras” than key players, (as it’s way more fun for the key players, and we want EVERYONE to have a great time! We also want to keep things relatively balanced!) but that’s just me. They do have murder mysteries out there for BIG groups, (the biggest I’ve seen is 60…that just boggles my mind) but they are super duper expensive, and raunchy/not appropriate (especially for a married student ward activity! Yikes!). I hope that was an answer that helped you! Do you have any other questions?

    1. Hey Casey! I am so glad you love it – we do too! πŸ™‚ We actually made it originally for a range of 8 – 12 players, but when we tried it out that way, too many GREAT story lines were lost, and the 4 “extra” players were out of the loop a lot of times, as they didn’t have solid connections to the “main 8” players (We couldn’t write the extra players into the main story in case they weren’t there). So, unfortunately, no, it can’t be played with less than 12 players. Seriously BUMS me out to tell you that – we tried! But it really is WAY more fun this way. All of the characters are contoured around each other, so each juicy story relies on another character to bring it out into the light. We actually found that between 4 couples, we all had other married couple friends or in-laws that we could invite, so we easily totaled 12 people. I also made some new friends that night, too! Does that help? Let me know if you have any other questions! Thanks so much for visiting the site!

  25. I am interested in your Red Carpet Revenge Murder Mystery Kit. I need to know first is there any sexual content (ie-affairs, sleeping around)? We are looking for a “PG” rated mystery. Thanks!

    1. Hey Laurel! Thank you for your interest! We kept things nice and clean in this murder mystery – we know all too well that the hunt for a clean one is TOUGH! (Not anymore, though πŸ™‚ ) So let me tell you a bit about it, as I want to make sure you are fully informed before you make your decision. Since we designed this with married couples in mind to do on a group date, there is some “romance” between characters (that would be spouses “in real life”). Really innocent stuff, like pecks on the cheek and writing secret love notes to each other. So keep that in mind when you are assigning characters to friends or family! I’m going to send an e-mail to you disclosing a few more details about this murder mystery – I don’t want to spoil the surprise for others, but I want to make sure you have everything you need to make your decision. BUT – yes, it is very clean…much cleaner than most adult murder mysteries, absolutely! We certainly don’t condone affairs or sleeping around on our site, so rest assured that doesn’t happen…AT ALL πŸ™‚

    1. Hi Pam! Fantastic question. I’ve thought a lot about this, as I had my own church group in the back of my mind as I was putting it together. Are you considering it for adults, or youth? Since murder is involved, I’m hesitant to give it my full support for a church group as-is. However, you could perhaps change some of the speaking parts to reveal the victim had been “poisoned”, rather than “murdered”. Also, since we are The Dating Divas, and we primarily wrote this as a fun, married-couple at-home date night to do with other married couples, we have some romance going on between the characters (that will be married in real life, don’t worry!) We wanted it to strengthen real relationships, even while acting as a character! (It’s all very mild, promise!) Anyway, that can also easily be removed if you are uncomfortable with that with your church group. It will just take a reading through of the various parts and crossing out the various “tasks” for the players to do. (You could use gold washi tape rather than a black marker to make it cute and match the rest of the kit). Running time might be a bit long for a weeknight activity, too, if that is what your group does – I seem to remember the party starting at 7 and ending around 9/9:30 by the time the awards were given, murderer accused, etc. The only other issue is, if in your church group, modesty is important – costumes from this era aren’t known for being modest. As you can see from the pictures though, we had success with this at the party, it just takes some hunting! πŸ˜‰

  26. Question…Could this work for a group of possibly 24? And does the 12 include the hostess? I would imagine if you are the hostess that you wouldn’t have a part. Is that correct? This looks so fun! I am hoping I can make it work for our group!!! Thanks, Dating Divas!

    1. Hi Melissa! Great question. Each character is crafted and contoured around each other; so as far as essential roles go, there has to be 12, and only 12! (Bummer, right?! We so tried to make it more flexible, but it just is more fun this way!) BUT – you could definitely still invite 24 people. Just pick 12 guests to play the key roles – the other invitees can still come as “paparazzi”, “investigators”, or even “raving fans” of the Hollywood starlets. They could go around, listen in, converse with each other about their theories, accuse who they think did it, and still have a great time! They just wouldn’t have an “assigned” role, per se, with key information to reveal. Regarding the hostess, that is entirely up to the host! In the “host guide”, we have fun options that include the host being a character, and the host just putting on the show! If you’d like to be a character with certain tasks to complete, the host guide describes how to go about doing that. (We tell you which papers you can and can’t look at if you’re involved as an active character, and want to be surprised at the end!) If you’d prefer to “sit out” and just observe/ensure everyone is having a good time, you can always play a generic role, like “paparazzi”. That way, you can still be really involved in the game (like I mentioned above with the other invitees), but being a host is busy enough, right?! I’m soo glad you think it looks like fun! We had a blast putting it together! You are so very welcome. πŸ™‚
