Start by selecting a letter! Using the printables provided, cut out each letter of the alphabet. I folded mine up and placed them in a simple bowl.

The letter that is selected will be the first letter used in each of your answers!

 Spouse Scattergories Category Cards

Select one of the four Scattergories categories to use. Each category card has 12 unique questions that all refer to your spouse!

Set the Scattergories timer for 3 minutes (or less for more of a challenge!). Then, using the answer sheets, each spouse will secretly write down a word to fit the category question. Remember: all answers must begin with the chosen letter!

Spouse Scattergories Game Questions

For example: What is one word to describe your spouse’s breath in the morning?

Letter: S

Options could include: sensational, sour, or sweet – so many choices! For the record, I said my husband’s was sexy and he answered that mine was spicy. Spicy?! We had a good laugh over that! I would have preferred  sexy . . .

When the timer runs out, compare your answers.  A player receives a point for each word they write down that starts with the chosen letter. No points are received if you both write down the same word. Double points are received if you have a double letter such as Super Spicy!

  1. Hello! Quick question…
if i am playing with like 10 couples, am i just playing against my spouse or against all 20 people? And if its against the entire group, I’m just trying to think of a unique word that any of the 20 people might not use (not just my husband)?

And do you think this is a good game to play with that many people or may not?

    1. The game absolutely could be played in a group setting. As you mentioned – the more people playing, the more challenging it will be to choose a unique word that no one else uses. It is up to you if you want to play spouse vs spouse or the entire group. Either way works! Have fun!

  2. Hello I purchased year of dates 2.0
I believe it’s missing a page. I have the yellow and the red spouse
Strategies blank card. it’s missing the blue and the brown page that goes along with the corresponding questions cards (with the same colors). You even have it pictured above. Thank you. I’m loving the binder so far

    1. HI! So sorry for the delay, I was awaiting a response from the gal that designed this one! So, there are 4 topic cards, and two answer sheets. The colors are those are not meant to be a match in any way. Just sticking to the color scheme!

In fact, the two answer sheets (or blank cards as she called them) are HIM and HER, so if she wanted a fresh page for each round – they would print it 4 times. They just wrote small and did all four rounds on the same answer sheet (blank cards). Does this make sense and help?

  3. Hi! We love the idea of this game, so fun! We are hosting a game night for our marriage ministry at church and would like to use, is there a way we can edit? We just want to be more specific on some of them that say spouse to read “what is your wife’s favorite color” etc. so they answer specifically about one person if that makes sense. Just thought we’d check, we can’t wait to play it!
    Thank you!!

    1. What a fun idea for a game night! They are going to love it! We don’t offer custom edits on our printables. I hope you can find a solution that works best for you! Enjoy!

  4. You have such a great looking page and I love all the freebies, advice and products. I am going to play spouse scattergories with my husband today! There are so many wonderful, exciting ideas on your pages that I find value in. Thanks so much!

    1. You are so welcome! If you love Spouse Scattergories – another favorite of mine that is similar (and free) is Couple’s Cranium!

  5. I am loving your site and games! I’d love to access the 20 games to play w 2 players but I’ve tried the links on 2 different pages and they only lead me to the photo but not the actual list of games 🙁 Please let me know how I can find these, thanks for all you do!

  6. I just had the pleasure of playing couples scattegories and I had the best time. It’s so much fun.

  7. I absolutely love this! My boyfriend loves board games, so I decided to play it for our Valentine’s Day at-home date. So much fun!!

    1. This game can easily be played with a group! You would actually play the same way if you played with two people or 10! Just make sure that each person playing can see the question card and has something to write with and on. When sharing your answers go around the circle and have each person share their answers and tally their scores!

  8. We’ll be having a “Date Night” for married couples this 13 Feb. and I would like to use this on our dating activity. May I know how to download the file? Thanks?

    1. That sounds like a really fun idea! I am sure it will be a blast! To download it simply go to the bottom of the post where it says, “Click to Download our Spouse Scattergories Game” and it will start downloading to your computer! Good luck and enjoy!

  9. So, I’m planning to try this tonight, but just a quick question. The answers are not supposed to be true, right? Otherwise it would be an impossible game to play using one letter?

    1. Barbara – We had a lot of fun with our answers. We aimed to try to make the answers as true as possible but when it came down to it we put (almost) anything down to earn the point! Have fun!

  10. Played this last night for our game date night! Hubby was a little skeptical when this was my pick… but he kept asking to do more rounds! Haha we loved it. SUPER fun idea Sarina!

  11. Great idea! I was thinking of using this as part of a wedding gift of date nights and thought of laminating the answer sheets and including dry erase markers with it. Of course while I’m at it, sounds like a great date night for my game loving husband and I. Thanks for sharing these wonderful ideas! 🙂

  12. Hello! Question, my hubby and I are about to play this but we are a little confused. How are we supposed to make our answers match when it’s asking us questions about each other, lol? And how do you determine a winner if the only answers that count are the ones that are matching? Thanks! XOXO

    1. I am so glad that you found this game to play with your spouse! I hope you had so much fun! In the game of Scattergories you technically get a point if your answer is different than the answer of your opponent. Your goal is to be creative in your answers so that you don’t have the same answer. As I wrote in the post: No points are received if you both write down the same word. Even though you are playing with two players, you will find that there may be many categories that your spouse can’t come up with a word and therefore your points are not likely to remain equal throughout the game. I hope this helps and I hope you have a blast playing!

  13. We LOOOOVE Scattergories and are totally going to use this fun idea this weekend! Thanks Sarina!!

  14. I love this idea!! Scattergories is one of my favorites, and this makes it so much more personal! I can’t wait to add this to our date night agenda!
